In Jackson Hole we are very fortunate to have something new and exciting to look forward to every ski season. Whether it’s a new event or an amazing addition to one of our mountains or enjoying one of the big snowfalls sure to come, we are spoiled every year with something new. This year is no exception! To see what is new for the Jackson Hole ski season, see our summary of what our local resorts have planned for the upcoming ski season.

Snow King Mountain

Known as the “town hill,” Snow King had a great summer with the addition of some fun new activities. The mountain coaster, treetop ropes course and mini golf course made Snow King an exciting stop in Jackson Hole.

Snow making has begun on Snow King.

Snow King continues to expand their services in the winter. Here is what is new for the Jackson Hole ski season:

  • Snow King will be open 7 days a week, beginning at 9 am on weekends
  • The old rope tow will be replaced with a new magic carpet lift for beginners
  • Beginner terrain has improved
  • Night skiing will be offered off the Rafferty Chair Lift
  • The newly opened King Grill will serve tasty treats to skiers and snowboarders at the base of the mountain

Grand Targhee Resort

Grand Targhee Resort, located on the Idaho side of the Tetons, is planning for one of the longest running ski seasons in the country, with their opening date set for November 18. Snowbrains recently voted Grand Targhee as the best place for early season, lift-accessed powder in North America.

Blackfoot Quad Chairlift Installation at Targhee

Powder hounds will love accessing the early snow from the brand new fixed quad Blackfoot chairlift. Although the original Blackfoot lift held nostalgia and great memories of the early days at Grand Targhee, skiers and snowboarders alike are excited for the upgraded lift.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

It is hard to imagine what Jackson Hole Mountain Resort could have in store for 2017 after the amazing 50th anniversary celebration and the opening of the new Teton Quad lift last season. This year the resort will open the brand new eight person Sweetwater Gondola.  It will run from the base of the resort to just above the Casper Lodge. The new gondola will significantly improve congestion at the base area by moving more skiers up the mountain, as well as provide access to an enhanced beginner’s teaching area located at the mid station.

Sweetwater Gondola at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

The resort will again host the poplar Grand National Powder 8’s and the Shriner’s Ski Joring events both slated for February.  The annual Rendezvous Mountain Festival in March will feature great spring skiing deals along with live music.
